Greetings,
I will start with my sincere apology for being late with my newsletter and list of classes, thank you for being patient!
I hope none of you missed the Ladies of the Lake quilt show; as usual it was inspirational. I am sure everyone who attended walked away with a list of quilt patterns that they will be anxious to start. For those of you who shopped at the Fat Quail booth, thank you. As always I enjoyed myself, this guild is full of caring giving people who go out of their way to make being a vendor a wonderful experience.
Well fall is certainly here, the frost IS on the pumpkin and as quilters head indoors the sewing projects begin! If you are not already inspired I wanted to let you know that from now until Dec. 31 Martingale (The Patchwork Place) is offering a $10 rebate to those of you who buy one of their books at participating independent quilt stores. Many of you have already taken advantage of the offer. I have plenty of coupons, just buy a book and send your coupon and receipt in for a $10 rebate. No strings attached, just their way of saying thank you for supporting independent shops. I have a wide selection of books to choose from so drop by and make a selection.
I do have some wonderful new fall collections, some that are accompanied with free downloads. I will be attempting to take some photos to include in this newsletter and Lisa assures me that I can send these to her. (I am technologically challenged). If I am successful you can check out projects and photos.
For those of you who associate frost with flannel, I am flush with flannels. There is nothing like a flannel quilt, or at the very least a flannel backed quilt. I have some “woodsy” planes of bears, and deer, acorns and pinecones, and of course Christmas and Kids flannels too.
There are new collections in by In the Beginning, Asians and batiks from Robert Kauffman, a beautiful collection from Michael Miller which includes a 24” repeat that I can’t wait to make a one-block-wonder from, some have just bought yardage for clothing.
There are a small group of us who started a quilt called Sample This. We met every Wednesday for 6 weeks and each person completed a beautiful and unusual one of a kind quilt. Some were done in batiks, traditional, or civil war, all different and distinctive. We all had such a good time that we didn’t want to stop meeting so we have decided to dedicate Wednesdays as a free sewing day. Just bring your machine, project, get away from the house and enjoy the company of other quilters. If you are new to sewing or quilting there will always be someone here to guide you. You can come when you want and leave when you want, you can even come and relax and just talk to us. We will keep this going to the end of the year and then see if we want to do it again in 2014!
If you came to our quilt show you might have voted for the appliqué quilt done my Marilyn Hoody. Many of you wanted the pattern that ended up being a book called Crazy for Appliqué. I now have it in and some will be starting it on Wednesdays so if you like to appliqué come in and share your expertise with us.
Hope you find something on the class list that inspires you.
As a side note, I wanted to mention Karen Mattson and Lisa Bowles recently took a trip up to Machine Quilters Expo in Portland, Oregon and returned with lots of new hot tips for me in terms of products and quilting ideas. While there, they dual entered a quilt in the show (Karen quilted, Lisa did the top). To their surprise and delight, "Goat's Eye View" was awarded a faculty ribbon!
Please feel free to email me any pics of finished quilts you enjoyed making or patterns you did that were fun and inspirational to you. I'd love to share a few on my next blog! It's always fun to see what everyone is doing.
Keep on quilting,
Debbie
